I assumed so at first. Now I'm not sure. The x account of the founder seems pretty distinct from the el Salvador pig (dot) gy group.

I'll look into it tomorrow.

Cool, though I'd recommend not wasting too much time. If you reuse branding resembling that of a scam, you're going to have to overcome that barrier. That is on them, not you.

I wonder if AI labs have tests for empathy, which admittedly doesn't make much sense yet, because I suspect empathy could solve alignment partially (assuming models can ever be expected to experience/simulate/model empathy). Empathy is what keeps humans aligned anyway. Well, some of us and some of the time at least.

reply

Does it matter if they actually have empathy or they can look like they have empathy?

reply
48 sats \ 3 replies \ @k00b 21h

I think they need to actually have empathy somehow. Sociopaths can look like they have empathy and that doesn't seem to help their victims.

reply

Is that an unprovable requirement then? Chinese Room Paradox? (I got paradoxes on my brain)

reply
69 sats \ 1 reply \ @k00b 21h

If we can't prove that a human has actual empathy, then I would agree that it's an unprovable requirement.

Even if something is unprovable we can still strive for it, hoping it's true absent proof.

ignore Simple stacker because he lives in an academic bubble, he is completely divorced from the real world

after all, I had to remind him that murder has no statute of limitations, which is disturbing because he places so little value on life and academics are more clueless than I thought which was a low bar to begin with and he couldn't meet my bare low threshold

pathetic

In Peru, that fruit is called "pitahaya," and it is expensive compared to the price of other fruits food is quite cheap there. I never gave myself the chance to try it. I would like to do so; they sell it here in Venezuela, too.

they are a type of cactus that grows like a vine. you can grow them most places that are hot and don't have too much moisture. I had a beautiful one growing here in Texas, but it got so big I couldn't bring it in when the cold temps of winter came, and it got frozen. Very sad.

reply

I also grow them in planters, though they tend to take longer to bear fruit; ideally, they should be planted in the ground with plenty of sun. Propagation is best done via cuttings, although I have successfully planted them by mixing seeds with clay balls and compost and scattering them across the land (nendo dango)

reply

Can this be done in an apartment?

Interesting situation just occurred.

I'm refereeing a paper for a pretty good journal. It's a joint theory-experimental paper. I looked at the paper yesterday and realized the authors overlooked a possible theoretical interpretation for their experimentally observed features. To support my report, and out of interest, I've checked this interpretation myself through simulation. Without access to the frontier LLMs, I'd never have bothered, but here, in less than 24 hours, I've confirmed that this alternative interpretation is the most likely one.

If I were acting in bad faith[1], I could stall sending in the report, prepare a simulation-only paper in a few days, put it on the arXiv, which would essentially scoop their work.

We've read reports of scientists getting scooped by the companies behind the proprietary LLMs, this shows another situation where the current system is dealing with unexpected cracks...

  1. I'm not, so I will just ask them to consider this specific scenario, so they have a chance of saving their paper. And potentially also very much increase its impact, as it would be the first experimental observation of that specific scenario. They could even consider retracting the submission to this journal and going for a Nature family journal. ↩
