If we can't prove that a human has actual empathy, then I would agree that it's an unprovable requirement.

Even if something is unprovable we can still strive for it, hoping it's true absent proof.

after all, I had to remind him that murder has no statute of limitations, which is disturbing because he places so little value on life and academics are more clueless than I thought which was a low bar to begin with and he couldn't meet my bare low threshold
