with that being said I’m deleting this app on my phone. Any of the items you mention work as a PWA?
No I don't think so.
Native mobile app (Nacho)
Native desktop app (Akron)
Regular websites (atbitcoin.com, spacesprotocol.org, explorer, marketplace, docs, etc.)
There is also orbee.chat which I forgot to mention. It's a pretty cool site created by the team. It's like a discord or telegram that uses spaces as usernames, NIP29.
There's a faucet (https://spacesprotocol.org/faucet) if you were looking for a free name to mess around with.
I'll pass along the idea of PWA and see if the team could get that implemented.
These on iOS?
Nacho is iphone and android
https://nacho.io/#get
Akron is apple, linux, and windows
https://github.com/imperviousinc/akron/releases
Orbee is web only right now, but more coming
https://orbee.chat/
I am in!!! Thanks !!!
What’s happening here
Nice, I see it!
What's happening is your handle has been staged and published to certrelay by the owner of @bitcoin
You can see there's currently 31 handles staged under this space https://explorer.spacesprotocol.org/@bitcoin
Once the owner broadcasts the batch to Bitcoin and the transaction confirms, all 31 of those handles are fully self sovereign. At that point the owner of @bitcoin can no longer edit or do anything to take them away. You control your name with your private key.
Previous batches that have already been committed are also visible on that same explorer page, including my name.
For context - Spaces was designed similar to the traditional domain system. The owner of top level spaces (@bitcoin, @stacker, etc.) can issue names underneath it, similar to how the owner of .com controls everything under .com (yahoo.com, abc.com, etc.)
.news same thing, the owner controls everything and they sold stacker.news to the owner of this site we're talking on now.
The main difference is that no one owns anything in the traditional domain system, we say we own it, but we don't. There's no cryptographic proof that permanently transfers ownership to you. Everyone's usernames, emails, websites can all be taken away at any time.
That's what's so cool about spaces and why I think it's the strongest naming system ever created, thanks to Bitcoin of course, the names become as sovereign as a Bitcoin UTXO. Control is permanently transferred to the owner, the space and the handle is bound to your key.
Handles scale off chain, you can have 100 million handles in 1 tiny 32 byte on chain commit, doesn't bloat UTXO set, you can't squat names, only 10 rollout per day based on the highest bidder, if you don't use a top level space after 1 year it goes back into the pool anyone can bid on it, handles are forever, probably a bunch of other stuff I'm forgetting.
All the auctions happening right now are for top level spaces. https://explorer.spacesprotocol.org/auctions/current
Nice so now with this handle what can I do? Haha
Haha, exactly, now the fun part.
The immediate use case is simple: use your handle like a Bitcoin Linktree.
Point it to whatever you choose. Different types of Bitcoin addresses, a Lightning offer, a silent payment address, social profiles, a website or anything else.
One clean name that resolves to your current records. All verified by Bitcoin itself. Full bidirectional zkTLS coming soon so you can't point to random socials or fake accounts.
Next step is wallet integration. Type a spaces name and it resolves to a Bitcoin address.
Similar to what we have with BIP353, except BIP353 relies on the DNS tower of custody and can rug users at any time. Obviously spaces is much better, your handle is committed to Bitcoin, the record is verified against the on chain root and no company or person sits in the middle.
Nostr is another great and easy use case. Nostr clients can resolve long npubs in verified spaces names. We have something like this with NIP05, but NIP05 depends on a single file hosted on a website believe it or not.
There's no cryptographic proof of ownership with our current solutions BIP353, NIP05, even DNSSEC, they all introduce real security issues.
Spaces replaces trust with proof. It's an elegant improvement and straightforward for clients to implement.
Websites an apps can offer 'log in with spaces'. The ownership of the space is proven by a private key, not an email and password.
As companies attempt to offer subscription plans and have users own nothing, tools like Bitcoin, nostr, spaces are giving users control over their money and identity.
Spaces can even function as a more secure alternative to traditional DNS. A website can continue to resolve normally at it's regular domain, let's say stacker.news - while the same content resolves through a spaces name stacker@news
Even cooler, a browser that supports spaces resolution can load a hidden site that requires 0 trust in any registrar or certificate authority. Essentially creating an entirely new internet that is much more censor ship resistant.
There's really a ton of possibilities and now that the protocol is finally built out, all these fun tools can be built.
Thanks for the support!!
Hey @BlokChainB, sorry just getting back from a funeral and trying to follow up on this.
I'm pretty sure we spoke at TABConf and you may have downloaded a version of the app with a bug that prevented submission. I'm looking at all the handles and don't see blokchainb@tabconf but I'd like to make it right. Email me at andrew(at)lunde(dot)com and I'll follow up.
I already deleted that wallet. Super frustrating that I didn’t get that TABCONF handle when I tried to claim it with the free code. I got my space now with the nacho wallet. My cert is still staged @bitcoin
Yes it is confusing, there's a lot to learn with spaces that's for sure.
The good news is now that the protocol is finally built and live on Bitcoin mainnet, the focus has shifted to building tools that make spaces easier to interact with. Everything is open source.
[To be clear:
This spaces wallet you screenshot above is not an official wallet built by the core team. It was built by Andrew Lunde, who's an enthusiast of the project. He won the @TabConf name in auction (Bitcoin block #953,822 Transaction id ffac0ff85c2ed26e6a417aced6302d344420fe2033241d8e5631f56e759b8a9a) and was giving away names at the tabconf event. He's been away dealing with a personal matter for the past week or so after the burn.
I'm not an official member of the team either and I'm not affiliated with spaces wallet. I just see real value here and want more people to learn about spaces.
The official wallet built by the core team is the Akron wallet (akron.io) that allows users to manage top level spaces, bitcoin bidding, etc. and the Nacho app (nacho.io) that allows users to manage handles and point them at anything they want. Also the official sites (spacesprotocol.org) and (atbitcoin.com).]
As far as the @TabConf name, that's done. From the lead developer ''subs is asking if they (the owner of the @TabConf space) have the .sdb file for the zero hash commitment, proving its a continuation of the
@tabconftree, but it doesnt exist. so it cannot be recovered, ever.''Only the handles that were minted under @TabConf can be used, no further handles can ever be created under that space.
There's billions of other names available though, tabconf is a cool thing and it's cool if you got one, but there's plenty more. Both top level spaces and handles.
You can roll out new top level spaces with Akron wallet or through the space-cli. Then create your own handles.
or
You can register an @bitcoin or @orbee name through the Nacho app.
