As someone who is interested in geopolitics, religion and social psychology and tend to read a lot about it after work or in the weekend. Obviously the picture are rather bleak at the moment, but I used to be able to also think about it a way of "this too shall pass" or "tough times never last", which are both just empty sentences trying to sooth the mind. In the last year I have noticed that my mindset has turned more sour and i'm moving into this nihilistic/fatalistic worldview in which we as human beings as a whole are basically doomed. "The apes who invinted tools are fully in the process of f*cking it up" is basically the main thought atm. Now I know rationally that doomerism is not the way to go and I desperatly want to move back to a more balanced mindset, but let's say that it feels that I must forcefully (and cringefully) push myself into a positive thinking habit which feels like being unrealistic.
I am pretty sure I am not alone in this and am curious to examples from stackers who are in this process and may have found ways to cope with it.
Acknowledging the many fucked up things that are happening doesn't necessarily have to lead to doomerism.
I used to read a lot of history, particularly contemporary chronicles or accounts of events. And two things stand out: 1) that humans frequently did absolutely horrible things to each other and 2) most of the time they didn't seem to think it was a very big deal. There's a lot of "We flayed him alive and fed his entrails to pigs while he was still alive, after which we had a splendid dinner of singing and dancing and wholesome family time."
I'm sure a lot gets lost in translation, but I think a larger percentage of humans think that they shouldn't do violence to others than any time in the past. This seems like a pretty good movement in humanity. Couple it with there being more food available, more knowledge available, and the compounding nature of human invention (we don't all have to start with the wheel, but can benefit from things humans have done) and I think things are actually looking up.
Maybe it is just cope on my part, but I can't help but observe that my odds of death by warlord or death by plague seem to have gone down, and this is probably true for a good chunk of the world.
I don't disagree with your general point. Man is on an upward trajectory as a species, but that does not take away the frustration of each person's lived experience, nor is it much consolation. Trying to would be little bit like saying to those sailors who are aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln -- don't worry, old chap, things are improving, you just can't see it from over there. Even if objectively that may be the case, my guess would be that it doesn't feel much like it is.
The problems that I can see, and maybe OP can relate, are:
On the last point, it has been clear for so many for so long that lived experiences do not really track with what we are being told is going on. Now, that is true AND more obvious than ever AND it really looks like nobody cares. Business as usual. The curse is in the knowledge of what is happening.
It takes patience knowing what to do and where to go knowing all this. I would start with scripture if you are struggling because these problems are not new, and there's a lot of useful data about how to deal with them in ancient texts, IMO. Getting offline is important, as well. Being present in the community and around like-minded people can just help to put things into perspective. Knowing you are not alone, and sometimes reminding yourself that your needs, by some miracle, are being provided for, and even more than that, as scoresby pointed out, and trying to see that hard times really do bring out the best in people if you are willing to see it.
Is any of it useful for you? I personally don't mind the technological change itself, because I'm using it to my benefit. But I truly mind the general/popular application of all the new-ish technologies. When I deal with normies, which is not so often anymore, I am mostly sad when I see what all the technological marvel is being used for: the human progress does not nearly follow the pace of development, as evident by entering any western subway system and having an easier job counting the people that are not doomscrolling than those that are, often on one hand, out of a couple hundred.
Is it really taunting if the targets are of no significance? They're just milking the cattle. What's happening is that the people are the commodity now. Your hard earned money, your attention, your vote. It's all being targeted by systematic extraction. You're not a stakeholder as a customer, user or voter. You're the cattle.
This one is huge for me:
Not just quality, but quantity. People need people - interaction with other human beings - and most of what they're getting is apps and games that give you a twisted caricature of that interaction.
China won the trade war.
Trump is backing The Zionists Greater Israel Project.
Religion is not the solution.
can you be more specific?
For instance, I suspect that people like you would have enjoyed whacking other people over the head with swords and sticks and things, and in this modern age, it is much more difficult for you to do that to me.
can you be more specific? do you have an example?
You still cannot accept that China won the trade war and that US hegemony is under direct challenge as a result of an economic and political force that is not aligned with your cultural biases.
I am a news / politics junkie and I noticed my mood improved greatly when I stopped arguing on the internet. I still read articles and scroll Twitter and Reddit, but I no longer allow myself to get so annoyed I post negative vibes. I still get some doomer thoughts but I noticed I am far less irritable and reading some negative news piece doesn't affect me in the way it used to.
Personally, I am spending less time on the internet and more time interacting with interesting people in real life; Read books and keep learning useful skills.
opt out; stop paying attention.
this.
Ignorance is bliss, until your Icelandic welfare payments cease.
You have to come to peace with the fact that there is no current state of affairs in the world or there always is a current state of afairs in the world. Either way: currently is not too different from what 'normal' was for the last 80 years
The current state of the world and how it will undoubtedly worsen is not something that occupies my thoughts! I simply accumulate Sats and let everything flow...

... Corey says, on a social media site. OK. OK.
I already have a positive mindset because I manage my social media habits.
I just enjoy all this as a fully immersive video game that I myself wished to play out of boredom. If you study religions/spirituality you should come to the same understanding.
My mindset is that we'll all be forgotten in 3 generations and there's little point stressing over anything
This feeling that you won't be remembered should free you
Only people like Elon will be remembered long term and there's noone reading this that is in that bracket
My favourite philosopher is Diogenes and I also like Aurelius
Essentially what you cannot control is irrelevant
If the West and East end up in nuclear war and millions die, so what, is what it is
For 500 years or so the west has dominated global resources and control of trade, infrastructure and institutions.
That is being challenged.
It is glib to say there is little point in stressing over things when you are too scared to understand and consider the detailed nature of those things.
If you do take the time to consider reality there are always enhanced answers and options available to the thoughtful observer.
Burying yourself in glib nihilism seldom provides the understanding required to respond rationally to reality.
I too feel the same way, but I try to use some stoic principles: focus on the things that are in your control, gratitude - be grateful for what you have and don't take it for granted.
Also accepting that what you consider as utopian might not be achieved in your lifetime, but by your actions and examples you set to people around you, you can be a part of making that happen.
This might give you more purpose and meaning.
You’re not the only one who feels this way. Spending hours reading about geopolitics and big-picture trends can seriously mess with your head—it’s easy to slip into that doom spiral.
Honestly, what helped me step back was slashing how much macro news I consumed and zeroing in on what I could actually do right here, where I live. I started building open-source tools, picking up new skills, and just fixing stuff around me. You can’t tackle global chaos, but you can lay some solid groundwork under your own feet.
Getting into sovereign tech and actually making things—stacking, building—gave me something real to work toward instead of just watching everything crumble. Hope you figure out your own balance soon, man.
Libertarians are delusional and cannot deal with the current global situation because it conflicts so fundamentally with the assertions and biases inherent in Libertarian ideology.
You need to start facing the reality of what is unfolding in order to have any chance of mitigating the impact it will have upon you.
Most of the globe lives in abject poverty. I don't care about the global situation. I want a single nuclear-powered Bitcoin-only city-state hidden under a dome of walls and missiles so I don't have to engage with people who think healthcare and water are human rights.
Israel is responsible for the economic crisis!
There has been a dramatic increase in the cost of living due to the rocketing fuel prices, and no one but the Free Palestine Party is talking about its cause. The apartheid state of Israel is the cause of the dramatic increase in the price of fuel and the cost of living. It is a European colony, built on the xenophobic ideology of Zionism, and is driven to constantly expand its borders and seize territory from people it sees as inferior.
Free Palestine Party calls on all parties in New Zealand to find a spine and sanction Israel, cut off diplomatic ties, withdraw from all military and security alliances with the US and nations that make us complicit in Israeli genocide and support the resistance of those fighting Israeli occupation.
Israel Pearl Harboured Iran in June 2025 and failed. Then, at the behest of Israel, Trump Pearl Harboured Iran in February 2026, while the US was negotiating with Iran. The average fuel price for 91 in January of this year was $2.56 a litre; today, the average price is $3.47 a litre. In January, the average price of diesel was $1.90 a litre; the average price today is $3.20 a litre.
Diesel has increased 68% in price since the start of the year; this affects every good that the New Zealand consumer has to buy. It affects the price of all imported goods traveling by ship and then by truck to New Zealand retailers. It affects the price of all food being harvested using diesel and then transported by truck again to the supermarkets in markets around New Zealand. Now add to this a 35% increase in the cost of transport for most people who travel by private motor vehicle.
If New Zealand is ever to stand as an independent nation with an independent foreign policy, then it must stand up now against Israel. The apartheid's state of Israel is the biggest moral, political and economic issue facing the world and Aotearoa today. |
The Free Palestine Party calls on all parties in Aotearoa to have the guts to develop policies that help put an end to the apartheid state of Israel, and help make the world a more just, humane, economically and politically stable place.

Positive thinking which denies the obvious facts is self destructive denial.
The world is changing in dramatic and fundamental ways.
The US domination of global economy, financial and trade is being challenged by China and other nations who do not share in the US view of the world and do not accept US hegemony over all other people.
There have always been challenges to the wests imperialism but now the one led by China actually dominates in many areas of technology, infrastructure, energy and productive efficiency.
The USA is responding by confronting Chinas economic allies- invading Venezuela and Iran because they have been selling oil to China using Yuan, not the petrodollar.
At the same time Israel is determined to advance its Greater Israel Project of gaining hegemony over the Middle East according to the belief that God gave it sovereignty over all the land between the Nile and Euphrates.
Israeli-Zionism is using its long time covert control of western imperialism more and more overtly...because it sees the decline of US hegemony is irreversible and that China will not be a compliant puppet to its monetary system covert control.
These are challenging times.
Most westerners are in determined denial of what is happening because it is not going their way and the nature of the changes are concealed from open dialogue and understanding.
Why are China's economic allies losing if China is dominating in many areas of technology, infrastructure, energy, and productive efficiency?
The Houthis are running rings around the Saudis making a mockery of US sponsored petrodollar 'security' arrangements.
Iran is also showing how ineffective and impotent the US military is against their Chinese sourced military technology.
The Zionists puppet petrodollar empire is in terminal decline- this is why The Zionists are sop determined to build their Greater Israel Empire ASAP and Trump is forced to assist them as USA declines and moves closer and closer to default.
You have been used and abused by the Zionist parasites you loser fool.
