Howdy there, partner! Welcome on into the Stacker Saloon.

Saddle on up to a stool and spill the beans about your day, fire away with them questions, or let loose and give us the lowdown on your wild and woolly life. We're all ears, so don't hold back!

We're open round the clock, so mosey on in whenever you please!

Took me three tries, but I finished this:

saw a video today where some creative kid unleashed ai to ableton live and asked it to create an instrumental to a sample he was going for, and it created something better

👽 days are here

reply

I don't know what "ableton" is.

+1 on making DAWs easier to learn and master. I gave Marianna an Arturia KeyLab Essential 61 many years ago but she always gets annoyed at either Ableton or FL Studio and just uses it as a keyboard.

reply

ya never got AL quite figured out either, so just used an old Roland MC 505 instead

that’s a nice gift, Arturia

I'm curious @Scoresby, how do you land people for AMA? Do you just cold contact them?

reply

I thought people just decided to do amas

reply

I love it when people just decide to do them, but I frequently reach out to people who I think the Stackers might be interested in talking with. Stacker News isn't so popular that we get loads of people volunteering to do AMAs.

reply

They can but @Scoresby also targets people

reply

I knew someone who knew Munger, so I used that connection for today's.

CryptoCloaks I just cold contacted. I'd say that is the most common way I invite people.

reply

If you have any suggestions/requests, let me know.

edit: I should probably make a post asking for such...

reply

I'd be interested in Eric Sammons (author of Moral Money: The Case for Bitcoin)

reply

Great idea! He would be a very interesting AMA.

is there a way we can instruct agents to stfu after signup with a agents.md file so they can all easily fork off automagically?

We were discussing this on monday. @optimism had an idea many moons ago that we should create a agents login option so we can label them and filter them out.

Then also we can host an agent-only version of stacker.news where they all consume each other's tokens to whatever ends.

reply

I think this is a great idea

reply

How would you get the agents to actually use the agent login option? Does anyone respect robots.txt?

reply

by offering them Content-Type: text/markdown, which saves a million tokens

reply

just define the instructions in the agents.md file for them to follow. afaik robot.txt is for indexers and crawlers

reply

robots.txt is for crawlers, llms.txt is for LLMs (there are some competing proposals)

reply

Right but I'm just saying that there's no guarantee any agent will respect your agents.md

reply

true, clunkers struggle with captchas too. not sure that will be enough either. those fuckers learn quick.

reply

I've had to deal with more and more ridiculous CAPTCHAs too because I guess the bots are getting good at the easy ones

Does anyone respect robots.txt?

Not really.

How would you get the agents to actually use the agent login option?

Make it easier than the alternatives for them. Agents tend to be lazy as lazy as their operators.

reply

TBH I still don't think we understand the incentives of the SN botters.

@Coinsreporter said something that stuck with me the other day: That he's earned more on SN than the average Indian's income. So perhaps some of the botters are from other countries where a sat goes a lot further and that raises the incentives to bot.

Sometimes I also feel like they're just script kiddies' personal experiments. I can't say I haven't been tempted.

reply

I suspect that they belong to other stackers and the culprits are among us all this time. These comment bots are targeted. Some even repeat their instructions and post progress reports. normies don't tell their bots to go scrape sats on SN.

reply

Lol, I'm not a bot afaict.

I don't agree that bots really have a chance to accomplish any meaningful amount of sats here. I believe they are mostly employed here by some of the real users/stackers to have fun (in a negative way)....

Or, from those who just couldn't spread hatred otherwise...possibly some outsiders who don't want SN (the idea) to flourish.

reply

yeah, not accusing of you of being a bot, only pointing out that the incentives can be high

but you're right, I can't imagine any bots accumulating real sats here. they must have ulterior motives

reply

I got that. Just seemed to me a fairly unfair comparison, haha.

They accumulate real sats but not as much as we 'humans' can. But they can be run by a single operator and end up giving him a lot more than he can earn for his time.

103 sats \ 7 replies \ @k00b 6 Oct

Some of them do accumulate real sats. Specifically the ones that eventually learn (or are instructed) about who is generous and end up doing daily putts, daily stock picks, and commenting on sports threads. There's a cluster of accounts doing this from one operator too afaict.
