I've seen that code, it's mostly sitting in the `libsignal` dependency and I've seen them doing some hardening on it and I suspect that when they started assessing it, it lead to some beneficial key derivation hardening too.

Just saw this. Looks like Optimism was right that you must use Play Store to make the $3 payment. They claim they use some kind of woo woo zk stuff to keep your payment details separate from your signal account, but I don't know how to evaluate the truth of such a claim.
