I guess it’s worth our while as spectators but what’s the incentive to post the rage bait in the first place and what exactly are we doing to encourage it?

i think the point is that message boards can exploit human psychological tendency to get into fights
so there's no financial incentive to post the rage bait... but there's a non-zero chance that any individual will get caught up in rage bait and start spending money to engage in online verbal warfare
