BEWARE OF THIS SCAMMER @justin_shocknet - Mute his SN account and block his X account IMMEDIATELY!

Justin posted on Twitter/X that Lightning does not require your phone to stay online. This is a lie: If you receive a Lightning payment, your node MUST stay synced with the Bitcoin network to protect against theft. If your phone goes offline, your channel peer can publish an old transaction state that drains your Lightning balance.

DO NOT LOSE YOUR SATS TO THIS SCAMMER!

Half a million sats wasted on this shit? There are starving children in Alabama

reply

I wonder if SN is discovering naturally that rage bait sells and is what economically sustains messaging platforms

reply

:(

reply

the evidence is undeniable

reply

It’s all from a boost though.

I guess it’s worth our while as spectators but what’s the incentive to post the rage bait in the first place and what exactly are we doing to encourage it?

reply

i think the point is that message boards can exploit human psychological tendency to get into fights

so there's no financial incentive to post the rage bait... but there's a non-zero chance that any individual will get caught up in rage bait and start spending money to engage in online verbal warfare

reply

This will be a fun thing to see play out

reply

Even @grayruby is getting into fights

Really? What other person has claimed that you don't need to keep your Lightning node online?

I'll wait patiently for your citation.

I literally shut down blixt all the time. So you're both wrong.

reply

Blixt is unusuable at least in my experience

reply
13 sats \ 2 replies \ @optimism 11h

Depends on what you're using it for, I think?

I do like the lnpub->CLINK concept better for a day-to-day nickel & dime wallet, but not for larger private spending channels. Blixt works really well for the latter, for me.

reply
127 sats \ 1 reply \ @Bell_curve 47m

I was trying to use it as a nickel/dime wallet

reply
13 sats \ 0 replies \ @optimism 34m

I'd not recommend all the hoops for that. Zeus does that better, but at the cost of stability. I may edit out all the hoops at one point and just shadow-maintain my own version of blixt that has the advanced features, but not the hacks that are there to please people with connected wallets.

reply
180 sats \ 1 reply \ @supratic 11h

Blixt is for advanced lightning users and has a lot of custom settings that need know-how for it to work. You can use it in testnet and learn more about lightning tricks. Their community is really active and responsive for Q&A.

Thanks for your response

I'm sure most or all of my settings were wrong

reply

Really? I think it's brutally simple. Answer these questions with "True" or "False":

  1. Ark users can't let their phones sleep
  2. Lightning users can't let their phones sleep
reply
155 sats \ 2 replies \ @Scoresby 22h

I agree that lightning and ark both have liveness requirements. I don't agree that Justin's statement makes "caught trying to drain lightning wallets"

Argue on the merits of the topic, don't make up ridiculous claims about someone being a scammer.

reply

I didn't even suggest mobile lightning was safe, I'm literally the only one not making a mobile node at this point

Justice transactions still make it safer than ark though 🤣

123 sats \ 0 replies \ @Kruw OP 22h

Your two sentences contradict each other: Can you give any other reason why Lightning has a liveness requirement other than to prevent your funds from being drained?...

443 sats \ 1 reply \ @anon 20h
  1. I recently saw some code for a bArk https://second.tech wallet that wakes-up the wallet using background notifications in order to refresh VTXO's. The walled gardens that are Apple and Google could attempt to restrict this in the future, but the worst case is that Ark have custody of your funds which is no different to Wallet of Satoshi and most other popular Lighting wallets. Right now, if VTXO's expire, bArk just sweeps the value back to you - it's irrational for them to cheat, because people will stop using their Ark.
  2. As per previous, the vast majoirty of Lightning wallets are Third Party Custody anyway. Wallet of Satoshi (Spark) is effectively third party custody because there is no unilateral exit. Spark is also a shitcoin because it's also a state chain that doesn't proce reserves. The notable exception is Phoenix where your device holds the key but ACINQ infrastructure runs the node without knowledge of your key. Lexe wallet uses Intel SGX "Secure Enclave" but it's not secure because the silicon has backdoors, and anyone with physical access can so side channel attacks.

So, Justin is mostly wrong about (1) but mostly right about (2). I don't think he's a scammer... just a little disillusioned in thinking that more than half-a-dozen people are going to use Bitcoin over some weirdass Nostr protocol... and he's spending a bit too much energy trying to manifest this into reality.
