Horrible disaster but I wonder if we’re again making ”carbon” more big of a bogeyman than it is.
I wonder if the major infrastructure drilling works China has apparently been doing in Tibet had some impact on the young Himalayas.
Could be a bit of an unfortunate “perfect storm” of everything.
People who decide to build and live by the river also take a risk (but if they’re poor maybe they don’t have a choice and they’re happy to take the tourism money).
Still, these kind of glacier landslides happen regularly. An entire town was buried in Peru in the 70s. Back then we didn’t have surveillance cameras and phones to record everything.
