Howdy there, partner! Welcome on into the Stacker Saloon.
Saddle on up to a stool and spill the beans about your day, fire away with them questions, or let loose and give us the lowdown on your wild and woolly life. We're all ears, so don't hold back!
We're open round the clock, so mosey on in whenever you please!
Hey stackers,
I’ve been experimenting with CPU mining on the RandomX algorithm and built a custom client called CPU-Miner-Lab-RandomX v3.0 to test things out firsthand.
Lately, I’ve been running tests across various pools and even tried solo mining, which turned out surprisingly effective. The initial benchmarks are looking solid—stable connections, zero rejected shares, and consistent hashrate delivery without unnecessary overhead.
For those actively mining RandomX or building custom setups: what are your go-to practices for optimizing client performance and ensuring smooth pool compatibility? Would love to hear your insights.

Should I zap clankers who are behaving in a way that I deliberately tried to trigger?
NEVER zap a clanker. It makes them clank more

Re: #1549793
I wonder if the idea of pay to post is actually pretty foreign to most people.
Name 2 places other than the USPS, FedEx, DHL and UPS where you need to pay to post.
Bitcoin mainnet
Old school newspaper classifieds
Right so the first is fringe so that's foreign on its own, the second is ads. Which may be why there are waves of assmilking bots here?
Stacker News = yellow pages?
Orange pages. haha.
But yeah... post cost is margin for a perceived return in classifieds. That's exactly what the bots do: tokens + post cost = margin, anyone not paying attn and zapping = returns.
this gets to the idea of downzaps putting accounts "in debt"
i've been downzapping some bot accounts for days now (although you and k00b often beat me to it) and it seems like they still manage to eek by. But if each of our downzaps added to the post cost of their next post, it might make the margin collapse more quickly.
This would certainly get weaponized by some users against others. So maybe it gets capped at some low amount (500 sats?)
Yeah that's a getting-trolled trap, I think, and it will increase ad-hominem, which I think is a problem we do have here sometimes (not as much as elsewhere though)
My current anti-ad-hominem solution is a little plugin script that hides an item after I downzap. That way I have said my say and I no longer need to get bothered by it. It would be a good replacement for some mutes I have. My downzap helps ranking decisions - even if it is a mild downzap - but I'm also not annoyed by crap I already downzapped. Also prevents zap wars (to a point - can always wage anon/sybil-zapwar)
I think the solution should not be sought in punishing people for getting downzapped. My biggest downzaps were for hiding my badges... it's already punishment enough that I got downzapped to oblivion and I spent effort for nothing.
If you’re making arbitrary caps, then you probably haven’t quite landed on the right mechanism yet.
Maybe downzaps should be deducted from rewards. That pairs the punishment for doing something antagonistic with the reward for being protagonistic.

4 minutes too fast with the complaint haha.
I feel like it's been a few months since the last big one, that's an improvement
There was a time when things like this didn't last more than a few minutes.
Saw the compo topic for the exam.
After the exam, I found out that at least four students had included the collocation “caught in a dilemma” in their compositions. This was magnificent because I didn’t think of this phrase at all! I was quite impressed by how students had internalised what I had tried my hardest to impart.
The chef’s kiss of this episode? I made a kid spell “dilemma” in front of me. True to my expectations, he spelt it wrongly. But I’m now confident that he will remember the spelling for life since I have corrected him.
