I think you all make good points. Maybe "kill" was too strong, I probably should have said AI is changing what search looks like.

Google was already becoming more of a navigation tool than a discovery tool for me. AI has made finding answers much easier, but I still find myself wanting citations and links whenever the topic is important or nuanced.

I also like the idea of AI drawing more from communities like Stacker News. Firsthand experience, discussion, and disagreement are things that don't translate well into a static webpage. The challenge is making sure AI can distinguish genuine expertise from confident noise.

Maybe the future isn't AI replacing search engines. Maybe search evolves into a blend of AI summaries, trusted sources, and community knowledge.
