🚨 @MARA Slipstream is now available as a permissionless public good with no client code requirement.

Please be careful and conservative with fees to avoid transactions getting stuck in the Slipstream mempool in the event that competitive rates spike.

For the foreseeable future, we are not charging additional fees for this service, but users are responsible for paying appropriate Bitcoin transaction fees.

What is Marathon Slipstream? What is Marathon Slipstream?

Slipstream is a service for directly submitting large or non-standard Bitcoin transactions to Marathon. It provides sophisticated users with a simple web interface and a transparent process for adding complex Bitcoin transactions to the blockchain. If your transaction meets Marathon’s minimum fee threshold and conforms to the consensus rules of Bitcoin, Marathon adds it to its mempool for mining.

This is why I don’t think BIP-110 will work. Point blank

I don’t see the connection. How does this impact the viability of BIP 110?

reply

If I understand correctly slipstream lets someone mine a transaction out of band. So if I am on the BIP-110 chain and I asked MARA to mine a txn for me that has embedded spam wouldn’t it still get mined and added to the block?

reply

No, because these blocks would be consensus invalid under BIP 110.

@BlokchainB: Transactions submitted to MARA’s slipstream remain in their private mempool until MARA finds a block that confirms them. Whether nodes consider the block valid would then depend on the content and the rules the nodes enforce.

During mandatory signaling BIP110 nodes only enforce the version bit on the block header, the validity rules for transactions contained in blocks are not changed yet. So, until BIP110 activates at block height 965,664, both Bitcoin nodes and BIP110 nodes would accept the same transactions in blocks.

I understand thanks for the explanation.

MARA isn't the hero here, their business model is simply being validated in markets. Private transaction submission APIs should be built into Bitcoin, and not for the purpose of bypassing relay policy. There are legitimate use cases for this.

Ridiculous. Eliminating the open and permissionless mempool would convert Bitcoin into a cartel.

MARA is simply offering out-of-band transaction processing, albeit at cost price. This has been possible since genesis.

Hmmm, I just checked the other day and saw some KYC/client code BS.

If they've done this to help CC users get their low entropy TX through then hats off to them.

reply

The more data they gather, the better. No matter who submits it.
