Spencer Pratt in the race for LA mayor has been putting out AI-generated ads using the likeness of Karen Bass and making her say stuff like, "I handled the fires so well I didn't even have to be in the country when they happened."
I share Pratt's anger at the direction of our city, but I'm pretty uncomfortable with ads that do this.

I think parody should stay protected, but intentionally deceptive AI political ads probably need some kind of disclosure requirement at minimum.
Hmm, I didn't immediately see if there were any disclaimers on the ad. I think it would be obvious to anyone that the ad was parody... but, you never know.

Deception is probably the biggest weakness of democracy, so if you want to have a democracy, it's worth trying to protect against it, ideally at the individual level. By allowing them, you can find out who is deceptive BEFORE they get into power, and take notes, and not vote for people that are doing these kinds of things.
However, I personally never trust the
demospart of democracy to actually have, let alone use their brains, and on top there is a big chance that there are only poor choices. Thus, in lieu of an actual informed populace and actual choices to make between honest people instead of crooks, it's probably better to just ban it and try to work around whatever influence these people may aspire to have on your life and that of those around you.We've had political cartoons and exaggerated drawings doing this exact same thing since the 1800s. propaganda is the oldest game in town. ai is just a new medium.

I just like asking if AI-likeness for actors be used after their death? I get the notion for nostalgia but let the dead rest in peace. That's my same answer to this post.
