Lol
But where is the credible source saying Iran is accepting BTC?

I think the publicity might be worth more than the reality. Bitcoin's use case is showcased, but if this comes to pass there will be a flood of FUD, and there are legal questions of international law regarding a toll booth in a strait, etc.

Thanks for that.
The link to Bloomberg does suggest they appear to be accepting both Yuan and stablecoins though there is no external link provided confirming Bitcoin is being accepted...so that claim is on Coindesk and I'm not sure if they are always credible?
The article does link to a Bloomberg article (again how credible are Bloomberg? I dont know)
Heres the Bloomberg article unlocked via archive-

Quote-
'For oil tankers, the starting price in the negotiations is typically around $1 per barrel of oil, paid in yuan, or stablecoins — cryptocurrencies pegged to the value of hard currency.'
I see no link to any credible source saying Bitcoin is being accepted...just the Coindesk article claiming someone from the Iranian oil co said it was- I would like to see a link to that claimed Iranian oil co statement before taking it as gospel on Coindesks word.
If it is then good- I do believe Iran have used Bitcoin to some extent to get around the USD sanctions and it is quite reasonable imo for them to use Bitcoin where the US/USD is not an option for them.
IMO if any two people or entities want to do business they should be free to use whatever currency they want and it is not fair or reasonable for USA to demand we only use USD or get bombed!

can Forbes be trusted?

reply

TBH I am not well informed enough about Forbes to know (they are not a major media source here in New Zealand) but generally if a MSM article quotes an identifiable official as saying something I would believe (it up to a point) as they would be liable to legal action if they misquoted in such a case.
Do you consider Forbes credible?

reply

dunno, but it has been around for over a century

reply

Thanks for that Forbes link- it does look fairly credible as the source is named and clearly states Iran is accepting Bitcoin as payment for oil shipment tolls.
I would love to see the BRICS and 'global south' using sats more for trade as it is neither controlled by US or China.

These are the kinds of factors that influence Bitcoin's price, and sooner or later they will be reflected in it

I like this interpretation of the situation as it seems more balanced and nuanced than some commentaries...
