awesome! let me know how it goes 🧡
yes! all the characters are from Spiral aka https://www.herecomesbitcoin.org/
and absolutely, i'd be happy to join the Alby Community Call this Thursday (Dec 11th) at 3pm UTC to showcase the app. thanks for the invite! 🙏
thanks for trying it!
yeah, you're right the current version is just a customizable Bitcoin paper wallet where you can tailor all the educational content on the card to whatever makes sense for the kid, then print it out. the idea is parents can simplify or expand the explanations based on their child's age and understanding.
i got you on the "too many concepts at once", so that's exactly why the customization exists. So moving forward, i'm working on different card concepts:
- eCash card
- Nostr card (npub on front, nsec on back)
- Bitcoin Lightning address card and more...
each focused on one specific concept instead of cramming everything into one card. should make it way more digestible.
appreciate the honest feedback, its super helpful for making it better! 🙏
So the android app is currently under closed testing. I need to add the email you use for playstore to the Google play console on my end, and then you’ll be able to download the app. That’s why I created this waitlist page: https://www.nostrpay.org/
Alternatively, you can download it from Zapstore, both options work for android.
Regarding the "Failed to connect wallet" issue, which NWC wallet provider are you using?
It's open source: https://github.com/Unit-Matrix/nostrpay and available on zapstore: https://zapstore.dev/apps/naddr1qvzqqqr7pvpzpfqc06lng86y76vsr35eezqgyuh8qqfwzxqcut4f52tfnp0dyd9mqqgx7un89ehx7um5wfcxz7fwv9c8qlnzt48
It's like an educational learning platform I'm building to teach kids about Bitcoin. But right now it's basically just a NWC client with a kid-friendly interface - you connect a parent's Lightning wallet and kids can learn about sending/receiving sats in a supervised way.
I'm calling it "educational" because that's the goal, but honestly there's still a lot of work to do before it's a proper educational app. Right now it's more like a wallet client with educational aspirations. I'm planning to add actual learning content, lessons, and more educational features as I build it out.
The beta testing is to get feedback on the core functionality first, then I'll layer in the educational content.
Here's a demo video of it: https://x.com/BitcoinNewsCom/status/1941929669969825919?s=20
They partnered with Striga, actually, most companies use Striga’s APIs (IBAN for individual users, on-ramp/off-ramp, virtual/physical debit cards, etc.) behind the scenes — like Bitwala, Bringin, Wave Space, and I think even Bitrefill uses it for cards. So they all have almost the same functionality but differ in how they provide the UX to their users. I’d say they are competitors at a top level, but at the underlying level, I think Striga is winning the bigger game. Striga even handles compliance and regulatory stuff for all these companies. Btw Lightspark recently acquired Striga.
Yes, and anyways, you have the option to set a monthly budget while creating the connection string on your wallet service page, so I feel you're not giving complete control of funds to the client app. On Nostr Pay, your secret is stored in a secure storage component on your mobile device, so that's safe as well.
