Is it the case then that most of us on SN are rule-followers and oblivious to these things? I'm afraid that I must be, because I can't name any.

It will not help you much knowing any of this anyway. You don't need to know what other people do with their money to solve your problems.

The question you could be asking yourself is: for what do I want to use Bitcoin and cannot, and how do I get what I want?

Solve your own problems, and if you have a satisfactory, reusable (or reusable after some work) solution, maybe you can build a product or service out of it. If you're looking for inspiration, check out what Justin & co are doing with shocknet, or how Zeus has evolved, or perhaps the best example (despite Nic being worried) btcpayserver.

All of them started with a personal/business requirement being unsolved.

Solve your own problems

That's a good reminder. I don't have trouble buying anything. And as far as accepting bitcoin payments, btcpayserver has worked, and now there are so many different plugins and options.

What are my unsolved requirements?

  • I do want an ability to spend from a lightning wallet at any of the many different kinds of payment terminals in the US (Square, toast, clover, etc)...maybe even at any place that takes a credit card. Ideally, this is not a Moonpay kind of middleman.
  • I want an easy way to allow people holding fiat to onboard and off board a platform like SN -- if they stack sats, they need to be able to pull them out in a form that is spendable/useable for them. If they want to zap, they need a very low friction way to do that even if they don't have Bitcoin.

These are both pretty big problems and I've spent a fair bit of time thinking about how to route around them, but maybe that's my problem: I'm not willing to actually try to solve the problem (mostly because of defeatist thinking: "it's too big/difficult).

I'm going to spend more time on " how do I get what I want?"

What if you could get it all cheaper, privately, over the internet, paid with sats, without having to go visit brick & mortar? Would that be an acceptable alternative?

That's not for you, and fiat != bitcoin. The stablecoin mindset is a shitcoiner mindset, because the fiat it tokenizes is a shitcoin AND the tokenization contract doesn't have enforcement to the peg, so that is a shitcoin too. shitsquaredcoin.

In the first case, I was thinking mostly of buying goods IRL -- grocery shopping, prepared food, these sorts of things.

What if you could get it all cheaper, privately, over the internet, paid with sats, without having to go visit brick & mortar?

I'm generally resistant to ordering food online, but I think it is possibly just me being silly. I'd certainly be interested in an option like this for non perishable items.

I haven't yet tried out Bitpost #1591653 but I need to.

That's not for you

It is because I'd like the SN model to succeed and one of the things I perceive blocking it (in non Bitcoin circles) is that people do not want the Bitcoin -- but you can only do SN with Bitcoin (at least I thinking trying to operate it on stables or by deposits would be illegal in the US and have awful UX).

I don't think I'm advocating a flat mindset here. I'm trying to make it so that the normies I've approached over the last year are more likely to use SN style forums.

buying goods IRL

If you move to Bitcoin Beach, you can buy your produce in Bitcoin. It may not be a good solution, but it is one. And it stands to reason that if Scoresby can't come to Bitcoin Beach, then maybe it is possible for Bitcoin Beach to come to Scoresby? You cannot tell other people what to do, but you can compete with them. It'll be a big project.

people do not want the Bitcoin

But how on earth can something increase Bitcoin adoption by offering alternatives to bitcoin-only concepts that do not use Bitcoin? Doesn't that have the complete opposite effect? If the business requires it, whatever, but then it has no longer anything to do with Bitcoin.

Let's just put it this way... the folks on SN are more likely to be the ones watching other people live tweet about getting into a shootout with cops than to be the ones doing it.
