Eh. I'm rather mixed on the outcome. For sure, I think it will open up new opportunities and some of them will be fantastic, but it will also close doors. If the analogy is food production, then I think we should consider sustainable, small scale farming - I rather like the idea, but it's not much of an option now that it competes with industrial agriculture. And it's ironic because it produced more nutritious food, was easier on the earth, and arguably was a healthy occupation. Maybe it occurs in a few niche places, but it's not economically viable for the most part. Sure, you can have a cushy office job now, which wasn't prevalent before, or even get paid to be an influencer and those things can sustain a person. I wouldn't argue that they're inherently better ways to spend a life. And beyond that, humanity has sort of adapted to a sedentary lifestyle because of this economic pressure i- in ways that aren't entirely good. Overall, I think there will be good and bad outcomes from AI advances, but we definitely won't be able to go back and so I still lament some of what we will lose despite having access to an exciting and incredible technology.
