Lately I've been spending more time with old technology than new technology. I'm still building SkyLordsLab BBS on my old antiX netbook. At the same time I'm trying to turn a regular USB stick into a bootable Linux environment for SkySigner, my Nostr signer.
Both projects keep giving me new problems to solve. Sometimes I fix one thing and something else stops working. But strangely enough I'm enjoying the problems almost as much as the progress.
Modern technology makes a lot of things easier. Still, working with older computers and software reminds me that there's so much we can learn from them.
I don't know if I'm getting old, but old technology and software have been catching my attention more than ever lately. Or maybe I'm just trying to find a little piece of my younger days again. :)
Anyway, I'm curious about what everyone else is doing.
What have you been working on lately? Do you ever find yourself going back to old technology just for the nostalgia?
Me too. Lately my hobby has been all around Nintendo64. I've been playing old games I enjoyed as a kid, discovering new games I never had the chance to play, and I even went as far to create a weekly N64 news segment on my YouTube channel.
For me, nostalgia is a big part of it. Times were simpler back then. I had friends and family around me all the time. I didn't have to worry about work or money. I was happy. I want to re-experience those feelings and share them with people.
I think you explained the feeling of nostalgia really well. It's not always just about the old games or computers. Sometimes we miss the days when life was simpler and we had fewer things to worry about. Maybe that's part of why I've been spending so much time with old technology lately. I also like that you've turned your interest in N64 into something you can share with others. What's your YouTube channel? I'd like to check it out.
