I've been drawing with colore pencils (to kind of decompress) and I'm not a fan of the medium. It's too permanent - kind of like hardware vs software. I can't edit or erase so I have to overthink everything before drawing something. Oil paints are still the goat. If only they came in pen form ...

not having an eraser when drawing is how you create your own distinct style, sketch it first, then go over with colors,

With oil paints I can sketch on the canvas I eventually paint on and in color. With color pencils, I have to either use graphite and erase a lot or do a bunch of studies.

I get it but it's relatively lame.

when i would paint, i would just use graphite paper to just move over the sketch onto the canvas that way i could just get to coloring free form

They dry too fast to edit as much as you can with oils - which is why I like oils.

ya i remember how difficult it was to paint in oils, water coloring always felt like super hard mode for me
