In Singapore, it is the norm for students in primary and secondary schools to wear uniforms. As such, young people who wish to assert their individuality dread wearing the same old clothes every day and lament the freedom of self-expression . In spite of the loss of creativity, I believe that there are myriad advantages to wearing uniforms, such as fostering unity and avoiding jealousy.
pull down to refresh
irrelevant, take your kids out of school
but I agree they are good of you have to go to school
I’m a public school teacher haha
you need a new life
honestly I don’t particularly want to homeschool my children. so teaching at the same school my son is enrolled in is the poison I have chosen
Yay.
But the sporty style one, manufactured by the school. The main advantage I see with uniforms is the part about avoiding jealousy. I had the boarding school style uniform and there rich kids would still manage to stand out by wearing brand clothes.
you mean there were different brands for boarding school uniforms?
Well, if you got a uniform with classical British (or Japanese?) style blazer and cardigan, parents can decide to buy Ralph Lauren or other fancy brands. This still creates inequality in an environment where equality was the intent.
With the sports trainer-style uniforms, with flashy blue and white colors typical in China, with a unique print for each school (school name, school number, etc), there is only one store selling them, so everyone actually wears the same.
I need to YouTube and see how Korean school uniforms look like
Nay, by far...
School is already priming kids to be drones, ready to enter the 9-5 workforce... it is bad as it is without uniforms.
Please let kids be critical, curious and train them to ask questions and not follow orders blindly.
true. I agree that the educational system doesn’t hone thinking skills. speaking as one who encourages students to memorise stock phrases to pass their high-stakes exams
Then, I am afraid, you are part of the problem... 🥺
