I've been craving a lot of popcorn recently after discovering hulless varieties that don't get super stuck in your teeth. Historically, my preferred method was the microwave because of simplicity, but our current microwave simply fails to pop popcorn. I've switched to stove-top with a standard pot and a lid wrapped in a dishcloth to limit moisture. Combined with butter-flavored coconut oil and Gold Medal Flavacol, I've been making some excellent popcorn.

Come to today, I've ordered an air popper (Presto PopLite) because I want the quickest and easiest method with the least clean-up, but I'm not sure how to evenly distribute liquid toppings nor how to make kettlecorn with popped popcorn. I'd be interested in a whirlypop if they were dishwasher safe. Tramontina's new Gold Pop looks reasonable, but I couldn't find any thorough reviews since it's fairly new.

Anyhow, what's your history with popcorn? How do you make it? What toppings do you like?

Pop in pot with lid, shake as it pops, use lard or ghee. Top with salt, Parmesan cheese and pepper.

ghee is just butter with a higher smoke point. it doesn't get the Browning that @k00b describes.

Don't give it to much thoughts. Just try it, you'll not regret.

I usually use a whole stick of butter in high heat in a pan with a lid. Salt after. The butter browns a bit which I tend to like

Butter browns when heat is to strong. Is it the way you do?

Here at home, I make movie nights on Fridays. I make them in a pot, pour oil in the bottom, add the popcorn, and he has a piping bag that he keeps rotating so they don't stick to the bottom or burn and all pop out... I'm the popcorn king of the house, hahaha!

Ahhh...then I sprinkle a lot of salt on top of them...I like them salty.

reply

hahaha, ok popcorn king! There must be a reason for it. Pot and lid seem giving the best results. Still, I'm tempted to try these new kitchen tools.

You allow yourself no other pleasure but meat now?

reply

Not sure I understand. I take pleasure in many things. In terms of food, I eat animal based, mostly meat, which I take an enormous amount of pleasure in.
