ProPublica documented 506 U.S. citizens detained by immigration authorities.

  • 100+ had their citizenship questioned, nearly all were people of color
  • 300+ were accused of assault or obstruction
  • 63+ were detained while recording
  • 70+ were children or teenagers
  • 36 were held at least a day without access to a lawyer or family
  • ~12 U.S. citizens were deported, mostly children
  • Of 137 citizens federally charged, nearly half later had the charges dropped or dismissed

And 506 is a floor, not an estimate of every citizen detained. ProPublica counted cases it could independently verify.

This is no longer a collection of isolated mistakes. It is a documented pattern.
