So YOU are the one! I knew I got one vote somewhere. Seriously, I got more than 120k votes for governor in 2008. I wouldn't get half that today. The big issue that has changed is immigration. We lost control of the border, and people (with considerable justification) became much more skeptical of the free movement of workers. Generally, I find that my sort of classical liberal, concerned about contracts, constitutions, and rule of law, have been put outside the wall for both parties. We are wandering in the wilderness.
