Psalm 55:22 speaks very clearly about how a believer should face burdens:
«“Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: He shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.”
— Psalm 55:22 KJV»
- “Cast thy burden” — Give your burden to God
“Cast” does not simply mean sharing your burden. It carries the idea of laying it down and entrusting it to the Lord.
The Bible does not tell the righteous that they must control everything by themselves. There are things beyond human ability: the future, injustice, betrayal, finances, work, and the things other people do to us.
👉 Faith means saying:
«“I will do my part responsibly, but I will not pretend that I have control over everything.”»
- “He shall sustain thee” — He will sustain you
This does not mean that God will always immediately remove difficult circumstances.
Sometimes God does not take the burden away immediately. Instead, He gives us the strength to carry it without being crushed by it.
That is the difference between:
- “God will make everything happen according to my wishes.”
- and “God will keep me standing no matter what happens.”
Psalm 55:22 emphasizes the second.
- “He shall never suffer the righteous to be moved”
“Moved” here can be understood as being shaken, collapsing, or losing one’s foundation.
The righteous can still:
- cry,
- fail,
- lose money,
- be treated unjustly by others,
- experience pressure,
- feel afraid.
But the promise is that these things do not have the final authority to determine their foundation.
- Spiritually speaking
This verse places trust in contrast with anxiety.
When I try to control everything:
«“Everything must happen the way I want it to.”»
When I give my burden to God:
«“I will faithfully do what is right today, and I will entrust the final outcome to Him.”»
That is a very powerful biblical attitude.
Psalm 55:22 does not promise that the righteous will never face storms. It promises that the righteous do not have to face the storms alone.
And this verse is closely connected to 1 Peter 5:7:
«“Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.”»
In summary:
Do what you are responsible for → surrender what you cannot control to God → continue standing firm in righteousness.
Soli Deo Gloria.
