I love Nostr, for as much criticism it gets here on stacker news, I still think it's a very valuable protocol for offering an ecosystem of digital ownership.

I remember jb55 first inducing zaps in the damus client but now I'm wondering if he got the term from stacker news.

Who's got the receipts?

No we didn’t come up with the term. We debated using it among others, but at the time (2021) there was a popular lightning wallet called Zap and making up terms seemed like a bad idea so we just stuck with tips. Jb55 deserves full credit for the term (unless he got it from someone else).

A Zap is sending money over ICANN, right?

(you'd've thought they'd've done Bolt12 by now smh)

Zaps pre-date nostr

(Gun-based prototype from 2020)

The Zap Desktop wallet had URI's for connecting to it remotely, "Zap URLs"

Eventually with LNURL it all became one concept

Most likely, SN is older and adopted this publishing incentive—which really encourages content creators to keep posting. Nostr is great; I really love it, and in my opinion, it’s quite addictive and highly interactive.
