Curry Barker's debut feature Obsession made movie history at last year's Toronto International Film Festival. After its midnight premiere, it was bought by Focus Features for roughly $15 million — one of the largest festival acquisitions ever. Since then, the sleeper hit has grossed more than $500 million worldwide, bringing the 27-year-old director back to TIFF this year for a special fan screening.

So excited to see where his career goes. Genuinely such a great guy with an incredible attitude toward creativity, and you can tell how much he truly loves the craft. He made Obsession for around $600K, sold it for $15M, and watched it go on to gross nearly $500M worldwide by increasing for 3 consecutive weeks in a row, word of mouth is king. Pretty incredible.
