These were the earliest pictures of Chloe I had available to me. We got her when she was 9 years old while living in Hawaii where she was born and raised. A navy family was moving and had three cats but when it came time to move to a new location the navy would only pay to move 2 and they had to select a cat to stay. Against their hearts wishes, they chose Chloe. They chose her to stay because they knew just how special she was and how loving and adaptable she would be in a new home. Chloe was a homie through and through. She wanted to explore and chill with a human companion. So in mid 2016 we took her home and fell in love.
These were in the second place we moved with her on Island from 2017-2019. She was so beautiful outside. We'd let her roam around as she pleased and she was good to come back even when you called her! (sometimes a little persistence was needed). She'd bring us critters, proud as ever, and once she brought me a little finch. I was making dinner at the time and in she comes with what I thought was a dead bird but when she put it down it flew away in hasty evasion! So the bird is flying around the house, Chloe is re-chasing the bird, and I am chasing Chloe.
These were taken throughout the years 2020-2025. At this point we had moved off island to California where she continued to roam and walk outside. She loved that fireplace every winter! We also noticed early on that she loved to rest her head on things so we gave that little pillow you see on the chair to her. She loved that pillow. If she was laying anywhere without it, we'd go get it for her and put it next to her and she'd use it right away. She'd also loved a good arm. She would jump up on the couch or come to you on the floor and wait for you to put your snuggle arm out so she could curl up inside.
As her little joints began to weaken, we had to give her those stairs there so she could get down from the couch without jumping. She was very thankful. These pictures are from 2025 to the end of her 19.5 year long life in early 2026. She developed a tumor on the side of her head, and it eventually started to interfere with her motor system. She was the best animal. A true companion. Her ability to sense emotion was uncanny. If someone was sad or my wife was having a bit of an overwhelmed angry episode, Chloe would come. She was a mediator and always a calming presence and it seemed like she took on that role with intention. I miss her dearly and I am extremely thankful to have had the fortune of having such a companion.
I wanted to share also her journey of euthanization. I was surprised to find out that in-home euthanization was a possibility and I'm sure there's some variance to the service as a stranger needs to come to your house but really, I couldn't recommend it enough. Chloe was achy and confused and the last thing I wanted to do to her was bag her up and bring her to a foreign place to die. There are many options for this, if you look. The lady that came over was so caring and loving and understanding and did an excellent job making sure everyone involved had whatever they needed.
I love cats so much they are so soft and cuddly I know she had a amazing life rip Chloe
We did this with our dog.
I’m also thankful it was an option because she couldn’t move without a lot of discomfort and she didn’t have to be in a scary unfamiliar place at the end.
Chloe sounds like she had an amazing life surrounded by love. Losing a companion after 19 years must leave such a huge hole. RIP Chloe. ❤️
Posts like this are why I keep this territory alive. Thanks for sharing. I'm sorry I didn't get to comment sooner. The joy they bring is worth the heartache.
we did in-house euthanization for our lovely dog last year. She always hated the vet and it would have been so dreadful for it to end that way.
RIP Chloe
It really is the only way
Damn, man, you made me cry... so sad.
I'm an animal lover.
19 years for a cat must be like 90 years for a human. Your cat had a long life and it looks like he enjoyed it to the fullest.
May God bring comfort to your hearts, because spending so much time with that little creature and now losing him must leave a huge void.
I'm really sorry. Losing a cat isn't losing a pet, it's losing a companion who was just there, every day, quietly, asking for nothing. I'm sure Chloe had a good life with you. Hang in there, friend
She wasn’t just a cat, she was family. You gave Chloe a beautiful life full of love...
This sounds like great loss to your household.
I'm sorry she had to go. RIP Chloe.
indeed it was, thank you
So sorry about your cat. The rainbow pic is beautiful.
Right?! that was taken by a friend actually why we were away traveling. We've had it framed for some time.
Those are beautiful photos; you can tell it's special—and I'm not a cat person.
I am so sorry for the loss of Chloe; how fortunate you both were to cross paths in this life and love each other. May her beautiful soul rest in peace.
What a beautiful cat. RIP Chloe.
RIP. Chloe you will be missed
