I ran a two day poll with a simple question - Does anyone know who "ethan, humpus" are? This post accumulated 45 responses - none of which identified these two names. Additionally, there were 25 votes for the embedded poll. 40% of the voters claimed that they knew these fake people, and 60% claimed not to know:
This question prompted a shocking amount of violent hostility from @supratic who was boasting that anyone who did not know these imaginary people were "just not well informed about lightning". When asked to divulge any details about "ethan, humpus", supratic lashed out and told me to burn my face, saying that I would thank him for the scars later - #1571125
Go out and DYOR, touch fire, get burnt, and get some scares in your face. You can thank me later.
I assumed Bitcoiners were smarter and more honest than normal people, but almost half are affected by complete delusions. Eventually, supratic admitted that he was lying the entire time, but only after @ek confronted him - #1571193
I used it to doubt @Kruw's ~lightning knowledge. That's it. I'm glad you connected the dots. You see, you can do it if you want, it just need some research effort. Bravo.
I am never ashamed to admit I don't know what the hell people are talking about. I had no idea who Ethan and Humpus were but I did think Humpus was a hilarious name.
Can we get stacker news back on track please? Perhaps start talking about all the cool things we did/will do with bitcoin?
Thanks
Talking about Bitcoin was what @optimism tried to prevent by inventing fake people to blame for Justin Shocknet's wallet draining post - #1570156
I am so confused. Even for the bitcoin community this chain of thought doesn't make any sense to me.
There have been some very strange posts and drive by "controversies" boosted to the top of stacker news and while the use of SATs is greats... They are strange nevertheless.
Ask @optimism to explain himself then. He says that anyone who doesn't know who "ethan, humpus" are is "either not being honest or having some major brain damage" - #1570158
Imho a bit of gaslighting might be warranted when you have know-it-alls who won't stfu.
If I had a weaker stomach I might have muted @anon earlier, but honestly I might now because otherwise I might kill myself out of boredom.
this is so boring
Not really, it's fascinating that so many people were fooled so easily. Whatever happened to "don't trust, verify"?
Agree.
Oh no, I made a typo in the title! It should say "respondents".
