I'm curious about the cybertaxies that are all over the place in Austin. I heard they don't have steering wheels and they have doors that fold out like a DeLorean's.
My children have heard me talking about it and this weekend they decided that they wanted to ride in one. Unfortunately, they only accommodate two passengers (apparently there are model Ys you can hail that will accommodate up to four passengers, but that doesn't seem anywhere near as cool.
So, today, I got the kids a ride in one of these golden-hued robots of the future.
Their verdict was that it is very cool. They claim it is quiet and smooth and they said the TV in the car was cool, too.
I guess I'm going to have to try one.
My youngest wanted to ride in one of the robottaxis too, but he was not old enough. We found this out the hard way. Here is his account:
haha omg what did you do, just drive to their drop off point? follow the car?
Gave them a phone and met them at the drop off. They had a blast.
Hahaha, you used your kids for the test flight.
Well, I would have gone but then one of them would have had to stay behind...
This would be nice to have! Unfortunately in kangaroo land it will likely take a decade or so.
I dunno man, this is some pretty new tech to be entrusting your kids' lives with.
I realize Teslas have a very safe record compared to other cars, but comparing a FSD car to other teslas is apples to oranges because FSD itself is still under development.
I'm glad they had fun and I look forward to using one when they reach us up here in Plano... Just maybe not the first few weeks or months. ;)
Also, Was the app hailing that drive on your phone? (Meaning the kids had no way of changing their destination?)
They had the phone with the app. I hear what you are saying about it being new, but I picked a destination that did not require freeways or major intersections.
I felt safer putting them in the taxi than I do when they ridden with me in some ubers.
Wow like a Batmobile
Haha, I’d probably just let the kids enjoy it and see what they say. Sounds like they had a great time.
Could it be that the same guy who's in front of the camera is the one directing things from afar, like a drone...? Hahahaha... Can you imagine? Could it be that we've been fooled all this time...? Hahahaha
