You can agree or disagree but I opine that the ideal age to get married is:
- Legally: 18+
- Socially: 25-32
- Culturally: 20–24
- Economically: 32+
- Logically: Maybe Never ;)
I'm adding this to the Men and Women Friendship commentry we had yesterday.
What brought me ask this is that a long-time friend and colleague of mine is getting married at 42. She always believed marriage wasn’t necessary for her, but eventually met someone who changed her mind. But at 42, is it logical, ideal or what decision?
So, What do you guys and gals think is the ideal age to get married? Does age even matter?
21-25.
I argue for younger than is popular in western societies because I think delaying this decision is causing many people to delay the rest of their lives.
Yes, I hear that the Western are not upto the mark on birth rate. One big solution for it can be early marriage. I suppose the early the marriage is, the better the chances of more and healthy children. South East Asia is a big example of it. India is the largest country because until very recently child marriages (early marriages) have been very popular here, partly they still are in some communities.
late marriage and aversion to kids is a big problem in western countries
The Indian culture of combined family does never let children deprive of love and affection needed while growing up.
One of my cousins whose both parents died very, in fact monther died when he was born. He's now grown up, just started college this year. I don't think anyone ever let him feel for his father or mother. He's been the most loved one of everyone. My other uncle and aunt care for him more than their son.
that's a good culture, and could partly explain why indians have been so successful in america
Also people that co-habitate later in life seem to struggle to do so
Also, other than the out-of-wedlock oopsie, rare you'll find a couple that wished they waited longer to start having kids
That depends on whom you ask—for example, if you ask a Muslim, they’ll tell you something like this regarding the ideal age:
for her, between 9 and 11
for him, 25 or older.
What do you mean?
Muslims are paedophiles!?
Hahaha, where have you been living all these years??? Don't you know that Muslims marry girls?
I've been here and there, everywhere. Haha.
I'm from India and we have many muslims here but they don't marry kids.
Wow, that's great to know you're from India...it's very common to see videos here in the West of Muslims marrying underage girls...I'll see if I can find some later
Yes, it's common in some muslim countries so what you see in videos is from there most probably. But in here it illegal to marry a girl under 18.
Also, you're right muslims who are radical and follow shariya would preach that girls should b married as early as they enter puberty. It used to be the same here as well before some time but now as the newer generations are getting more and more educated and living in a free and most tolerant country as is India, the muslims hav now grown up. At least I don't see any child marriages in any religion or creed in my city where there are 70% muslims and the rest are Hindus.
Wow, that's interesting. Perhaps because they are migrants and grew up away from their homelands, they have absorbed more of the other culture... I don't know, I'm thinking with my own migrant mindset.
Here, no migrants. They have been here for centuries. There's also little cultural exchange with Muslims in most of India because they live seperately. It's very rare that a Muslim is neighbour to a Hindu here. I think it's law and some education is helping to change the mindset.
Friend, that's no secret.
25-35 is probably best.
Thank God 🙏 I got married in this BIG bracket!
THE MEDIAN IS 28.9 IN A SURVEY.
Me too. Twice. haha
😜 I too more than twice... Not legally though.
Sometimes it take a couple or few tries to get it right. Haha
Haha yes
Here in india the problem is different. Most of the marriages happen without any prior love or relationship. They start to love or hate after marriage. I'm fortunate to marry to someone who I known and loved for 6 years. Still I had to get permission from my parents and they gave it easily because my wife is from the same caste.
I got married just after turning 24 and finishing university; we'd been dating for two years. We got married as soon as I had my first paycheck. But I would recommend that once you're independent from your parents is the ideal age.
Personally, I think postponing marriage is something you'll regret later. For me, it's been wonderful, and having children when you're strong and energetic makes a huge difference. If I could have, I would have gotten married at 18 and already had five or six kids, hahaha.
Another important thing is knowing how to choose the right person to spend the rest of your life with; that also makes a big difference.
I second it. I delayed it albeit not many years and not because I wanted. But it got delayed. Not regretting though but, we were in relationship for 6 year. I have one kid now and if we married earlier I could at least gave 2, maybe 3..
True... many things are sometimes out of our control!
20-24 looks about right. marriage, in my experience, is a wonderful thing.
Why do you think 20-24 is the right age?
I also agree with
I just think that now we are so fixated with the notion of first becoming financially stable we delay it to 30+ and lose one part of life chasing finances.
biologically that's just the perfect age to start building a long term relationship. there's also beauty in building life together from scratch.
The ideal age is whatever age you are when you realize you want to stay with your partner for the rest of your life.
This is as if getting married is just a personal choice, you won't consider any other aspect.
Do you think it's ideal when a 60-70 year old marry to a 30-40 year old? What's ideal there?
If they're following my advice, then what's ideal there is that they want to stay together indefinitely.
It's your life. Spend it with the people you want to spend it with.
Okay. So you give advice against the rules of biology. ;)
I get it you mean it's the matter between the two. We can't decide.
But my question is general and specific to age. What's the best age ideally considering all aspects?
Our brains and hormones are biological
Congratulations to your friend on deciding to find the ideal person to share her life with. The important thing is that it be someone who loves her, and whom she loves in return. There is nothing wrong with getting married at 42. By that age, you should already know what you want in life unlike when you were between 18 and 25.
To answer your question, I think the ideal age is 25 and up.
I think age matters less than maturity, independence, and choosing the right person. If both people are emotionally ready and can build a stable life together, there isn't one perfect age.
