in the past month and a half of brainstorming, running errands, a business with my wonderful soon to be husband, and running a business some more, it's only right for me in between all of this work to make a notice of this one thing:

***physical media is dying, especially out here in the us. less movies, dvd's, and books are frequenting retailers and big box stores.*** target doesn't even have a dvd section anymore.

i mean come on, i saw an entire bin full of academy award winning movies for $5-$10, and whole tv series for less than $50 at walmart today.

back in the early to mid 2000's when blockbuster and redbox dominated across the country, is nearly a thing of the past in today's world. the thrill of walking into a store to rent a movie when it came to dvd form was awesome especially when you were between the ages of 5-14, and wasn't available readily anywhere else yet or didn't have interest in buying it at its full price. oh, and we must never, EVER forget about our libraries and bookstores.

something i've slowly realized with subscriptions is they add up over time, they can remove your favorite tv shows and movies whenever they want, and you inevitably need the internet to access them. and if the internet goes to shit, so does your entertainment.

having physical forms means no ads, no paying for them month to month, and finally, can last indefinitely with great love and care.

i guess the point i'm trying to make is phyical media is another means of autonomy, independence, and nostalgia without having to constantly consume for the extra convenience. you only consume what is you actually need when you're intentional. so, here is some of the types of physical media i will forever own (and am hoping to own one day).

1. The Disney Renaissance.

nothing, and i mean, NOTHING, is more defining of my chilhood than these 10 movies. They are sitting quietly in my bedroom ready to be watched at anytime with my dvd player waiting to be plugged into my computer.

And Atlantis: The Lost Empire. As well as Treasure Planet. And Lilo and Stitch.

Also a good many to note from the 50's and 80's as well.

2. CD's.

Again, music without a subscription keeps me selective and intentional. I will admit I use apple music at the moment, but this collection continues to grow. Some I own include:

- The First Three Jonas Brothers CD's

- Halsey's Badlands.

- One Ok Rock's mid 2010's albums.

- some Broadway soundtracks and musical movie scores.

3. Gilmore Girls.

Funny enough, I actually bought this whole series in the past week. It's Fall. What can I say? If anything screams physical media in an early 2000's world, it would totally and completely be something quirky, nerdy, and small towny.

4. Harry Potter, LOTR, Narnia, and whole lot of other things Fantasy.

Why not own possibly the greatest book series' ever written? Depending on my mood, I will come to certain scenes to read or scenes from the movies for that magical feeling again.

5. Avatar: The Last Airbender.

Timeless. Masterful. Innovative. Peak Kid and Adult Nostalgia. This is my ultimate comfort show in all the ways of the world.

Definitely going to own this by the end of 2026 for the obscene amount of times I have rewatched this.

6. Anything Marie Lu, Casssandra Clare, and Sarah J Maas.

Last and certainly not least, my favorite modern day authors hold a place here too. I've read their books many times over the years, and their writing and innovation in the book space has STILL not disappointed me in anyway. All of their books I have genuinely liked, and they will forever be allowed to keep a space in my home.
