I would only recommend about a third of the way through that story to have gotten a second opinion and dump the doctor you had. General Practitioners tend to be the gateway to actual specialists and they can be very jaded given the caseload they see. You have to a grumpy pain the ass sometimes to get the care you paid for (little detail they like to ignore since they don't share in the full profits the HMO gets from you).
