the connection to humans part is interesting. I can believe that there is less of a connection to a person who prompted something into existence.

however, i don't think there is much connection between me and Caravaggio, yet his Works of Mercy painting is still something I'd stand in front for a while (and I'm not even much of a paint admirer).

I think it is possible that AI slop is changing art -- like factory farming changed food: there is an abundance of the thing, and our tastes are being recalibrated to deal with it. What once might have been a flavor or weirdness of shape we expected of our food, is streamlined into the cartoon version you find at Walmart.

It may be the case that effort is a heuristic we can use to defend against these changes, but it doesn't matter much to me if someone spent a minute on their prompt or an hour, the result will still likely feel disappointing to me.
