The artwork, titled “A.I. God. Portrait of Alan Turing,” is a large, abstract portrait of the British mathematician and computer scientist who helped lay the foundations of modern computing and AI.
The crazy part? It was initially estimated to sell for just $120,000–$180,000. Instead, 27 bids pushed it far beyond expectations.
Ai-Da uses cameras, AI systems and robotic arms to create its artwork the sale raises an interesting question: when a machine creates the work, what exactly are people paying for the art, the technology, or the idea behind it?
