Sitting here in this unique cafe and it struck me how wonderful it is that my neighbors on each side of me just walked away from their macbooks for probably a half hour now and just fully expect their notebooks to still be there when they get back. I know there are a lot of downsides to this culture but it’s really wonderful being in a high trust society.
Also ZipAir having Starlink is a total game changer.. having high speed wifi makes flights to Japan much more productive and palatable.

That culture is truly unique... in any other South American country, those laptops wouldn't last more than 10 minutes there... hahaha
The only thing I don't like about that culture is the language... just hearing them gives me a headache hahaha
By the way, the view is beautiful too
So interesting I find the language so beautiful, but maybe that's from growing up watching anime.
That must be it... I have a friend who loves anime, and he always wanted me to join him, but his voice always seemed uncomfortable to me. I only managed to watch one anime, Death Note.

Actually Singapore is kinda like that. People leave their valuables on a table with nary a care of their belongings. But I think it arises more from a sense of how Singapore is small and how criminals will be easily caught haha
Yeah I think there are some pockets in the US as well with similar behavior- small towns in Utah etc and ski resorts where people leave their snowboards out.
It just feels like it's impossible to return to this once it's gone...
Ya I think places like Japan are a rarity around the world
Yeah, I definitely don't have that level of trust in the US. When I work at starbucks and have to go to the bathroom, I pack up and take my computer with me :(

Same experience for us in Osaka & Kyoto.
We found the exact same behavior. They'll simply leave their handbags on the table while they're going... who knows where for who knows how long.
There are certainly some issues, but we're keen to return in future.
