It does appear tho that the disciples had no expectation of Jesus’ resurrection, but rather a conqueror that would expel the Romans.
I wouldn’t go so far as “expel the Romans.”
But I would say they expected him to restore the kingdom to Israel. Even after the resurrection, they ask Jesus exactly that in Acts 1:6.
I also wouldn’t frame the final outcome primarily as punishment. I would frame it as justice.
And yes, after judgment, that justice is permanent.

A lot here in a topic that I really like to ponder. I think it's interesting the hints that you point to thru the ages. It does appear tho that the disciples had no expectation of Jesus resurrection, but rather a conqueror that would expel the Romans.
What interests me these days is the importance of the resurrection in regards to salvation. I would say it is the center of my Theology. Like Paul says, "And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins." (1Cor 15:17)
From that flows the following for me:
-Salvation is resurrection (meaning we stay here)
