Cease and desist
On 24 August 2026 cease and desist letters have been sent by X Corp. demanding a permanent takedown of Nitter instances and the project's repository.
nitter.net is offline and development has stopped for the time being. I'm seeking legal advice and won't be commenting further on the specifics for now.
Thank you to everyone who used, hosted, packaged, donated and contributed to Nitter over the past seven years.

I just discovered this project here; I had no idea it had been around for so long. I'd barely post a link to X and he'd reply instantly. I'm going to miss him, and I hope he comes back stronger than ever.
Seven years of building a tool people actually used, then one letter is enough to shut it down. This is why open protocols and permissionless systems matter. The internet was supposed to be built on things that nobody could simply switch off
