Everything in Europe is small, broken, and slightly derelict. If you are sitting in a bar in Texas, things might not feel so bad, but the food isn't good and there are homeless people camped in front of the nice buildings. If you're at a bar in Chengdu, the buildings are brand new and possibly on their way to receivership.
