This might be my favorite economic development campaign of the year.
The Florida Chamber of Commerce just bought a giant billboard in TIMES SQUARE naming New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani its “Economic Developer of the Year” and the billboard tells him “Thanks for the jobs!” Apparently Florida decided sending a fruit basket wasn't enough.
The Chamber says Florida is gaining about $2.4 million in taxable income every hour, while New York is losing about $1.1 million an hour. So while Mamdani works on higher taxes and expanding government programs in New York, Florida is standing at the state line like “Welcome! Would you like a house, an LLC, or both?”
The funniest part is Florida didn't even put the billboard in Florida. They put it in Times Square. That's not advertising, that's trolling with an economic development budget. The free market has a strange sense of humor.
Not my favorite use of tax dollars but I'd tolerate it lol.
