One disagreement I have is about hoarding. If you believe in property rights, freedom, and free markets then hoarding doesn’t really exist. If someone acquires something and they never want to sell till they die that’s their right! People shouldn’t be forced to sell anything they don’t want to especially if the market isn’t giving them a good reason to spend their bitcoin.
It's definitely our right to hold onto things. In the Bitcoin future I see, there would be less of a reason to need to hold tons of value away that doesn't do any real work. Energy that flows around is the best. Just my opinion.
I agree the primary use case for Bitcoin is spending. The more we use Bitcoin the stronger it will be. The more it will be a viable alternative to the fiat debt slavery regime. Coinos is my favourite LN wallet because it is easy to use and has very low fees. Adam the guy who operates it seems to be genuinely motivated to enable as many people as possible to have access to LN. At the same time I have hoarded BTC because I did not want to leave my money in the bank as fiat. BTC gave me the opportunity to have much more direct custody of my savings and that is why I moved most of my savings to BTC as soon as I realised this was possible. You do not need a proprietary HW- I was always highly suspect of these highly touted devices- they take away from your direct control- they mediate and promise security but you are trusting the provider and paying them for the surrender of your monetary sovereignty. Instead you can DIY your own cold storage, easily and securely by using -
For onchain funds only use a Linux OS. For LN I use Coinos via linux and via a cheap android phone when out and about away from linux laptop - the sums are small so security is less important.
You are still reliant upon trusting Electrum but these guys have proven track record of providing a secure as possible wallet.
So I largely agree with you @desertdave - use and spend sats, if you have savings move them to sats. I am retired and free to be doing everything I ever dreamed of because of Bitcoin- it has enabled me to live the dream because it provides me direct sovereignty over my savings- I dont have to go plead to a bank how I spend my money. Fuck the banks.
Only thing I want to see is more people using sats for payment- so I can spend sats, not have to convert back to fiat so much.
