I Did Everything I Was Supposed to Do. I Still Lost Bitcoin.

I never thought I would be writing these words.

Today, I can say that I am one of the people affected by the recent COLDCARD incident.

I lost a significant amount of Bitcoins.

I won't share how much.

For years, I believed that following self-custody best practices was enough. I generated my seed on a dedicated hardware wallet, kept it offline, backed it up carefully, and treated it as one of my most valuable possessions.

I never stored the seed digitally.

I never uploaded it to the cloud.

I never took a photo.

I never typed it into a computer.

I never shared it with anyone.

I did what the Bitcoin community has encouraged for years.

Yet I still suffered a loss.

Losing Bitcoin hurts.

But ignoring the lessons would be an even greater loss.

If sharing this experience helps even one person strengthen their security model, then something good can still come from it.
