Robots on manufacturing floors, particularly automakers, is not a new thing. They first started showing up in the 90s. However, the paradigm now seems to be shifting to full replacement of teams and layers of factory workers. This was hinted at during robotic conventions a few years back, with factories being a primary target for the next wave of manufacturing robotics. This of course raises the question, while retraining would redirect people to jobs in the past, now that AI has wiped out the need for a lot of entry level person-work, where do these factory workers go now for a paycheck aside from the dole/welfare?
