I think I agree, but I'm trying to get at the idea that information isn't like a specific set of bits that are transferred to our minds -- what get from good writing is a new mindset. If we want to use computers as an analogy for our minds, good writing isn't like a piece of data we download, it's new programming. But this isn't even a very good analogy. It's that our minds can't hold certain information unless some things in the state of our mind are changed. I'm doing a poor job conveying this, but I think it's very important.

I get what you mean. Good writing doesn’t just pass information, it changes how we think so the idea can actually stick.
Good writing isn’t just information transfer. You can usually feel when someone has actually wrestled with an idea.
