pull down to refresh

I visited Kumamoto Castle last year. 10 years after an earthquake had wrecked havoc on it.

Not usually a fan of modern conveniences encroaching upon ancient landmarks. But since I was saddled with two children, I appreciated the availability of escalators that enabled me (and the stroller) to reach the vantage without breaking a sweat.

But maybe indelible travel memories aren’t made of this.

Impressions are carved into stone when I get to peek into the lives of the locals. Don’t remember much about Nagoya Castle but honestly, it doesn’t matter. I remember admiring how Japanese of all ages danced to the same catchy summer tunes, sweating it out during a scorching summer night.

I also remember visiting Okayama Castle during the New Year holiday. I took a photo of a Japanese lady kneeling down in kimono. What was she thinking about? I will never know. But enigmas are what stir the traveller’s heart.

Reminds me of Ryu’s Stage in Street Fighter II

We were at Himeji this March. My second time visiting (first time was back in 2009), but first time with my kids. The castle was still as awesome as I remembered.
