A creeping sense of dread rose up within me when my son asked me to find Lego blocks for him. I looked inside his Ikea basket in dismay, stifling a groan and trying to force an obliging smile on my face. It was chock full of a gallimaufry of toys from various collections.
Still, the son wanted to build his own zoo, so what could I do? Suppressing the wave of impulsivity that surged through my body, I began sorting out his items. One by one. As if I had all the time in the world.
An hour of my life energy slowly dissipated before my consciousness. But I did notice a curious shift within me during the cleaning. Contentment put a wry smile on my face as I completed my ordeal. Did I dare say that it was therapeutic and not traumatic? Perhaps.
