You never know what you might find where you happen to be, especially when traveling. Modern coin machines are highly sensitive to exact weight of coins, and people generally don't want to bother with the few coins rejected. So, they leave them. I haven't found any silver or rare coins yet, but the Coinstar thing on reddit is real. My three finds today just on a simple random check.

Those look like trash to me. I'm not trying to troll or be a jerk. I'm serious when I say, I wouldn't want those if they were given to me on a silver platter.
As it turns out, two are Japanese and the other is Swiss, thanks to the collective Reddit Identification mind. The two were literally gems to my daughter who is big on Japanese stuff and wanted them. So they are gems in practice, and that's all that's worth it to me.
