If Joe West is correct that ABS is 2D that would be a bit of oversight in my opinion by MLB.

In my experience of umpiring (very limited) I was trained that the strike zone was 3 Dimensional.

I didn’t know they were using the midpoint of the plate to measure for ABS. Would have thought it would be the front of the plate then you don’t need 3D. It will be interesting to see how it evolves over the years.

I don't think front of plate solves it. Think slider breaking over back of plate

Well it solves it in sense that it is cut and dry. It is either in the zone or out of the zone when it reaches the front of the plate. As to what the rule should be and whether a strike should carry the zone the entire time is another question.
