I'm a bit confused with the LIT, what's that for 🤔 could I disable that? @sn

LIT is sorting all items on SN by recent zaps.[1]

So, if a post that was published a year ago gets a 1000 sat zap just now, it will show up on LIT above a post that was just published an hour ago, but only got 500 sats in zaps.

The hope is that LIT does a better job of surfacing what stackers are actually talking about and zapping and interacting with, regardless of when it was published.

  1. it is a little more complicated than this as LIT takes into account all sats invested in a post but halves their weight every four hours after the investment occurred. So: post in ~privacy where the posting fee is 500 sats and it counts the same for ranking in LIT as getting a 500 sat zap. However after four hours, it only counts as 250 sats as far as LIT is concerned. A new post in ~AskSN (posting fee of 100 sats) will still be ranked lower than the older ~privacy post. But if the ~AskSN post gets a 200 sat zap, it will rise to a higher rank in LIT than the ~privacy post.

make sense, and congrats @Scoresby joining SN:)

how about switching the position between NEW and LIT? 👀

reply

I do spend most of my time on NEW, but I wonder if people who are not so permanently online want to scroll through all new posts by default. It's interesting to think about though.

reply

I like to search by keywords or look into specific stackers.

LIT allows your post from 2024 onto the front page because it was zapped today.

Car also had an issue with the naming. Imagine it's just a rename of HOT because that's what it is.

reply

why don't keep it HOT then?

reply

because it doesn’t work like hot on other sites. I didn’t expect a name to confuse anyone though.

reply

not anyone, just everyone not familiar with AAVE jargon or the past participle conjugations
