I have not found that to be the case, but I suppose it is for most.

I also imagine part of it is whether these guys have legitimate prospects for work after football. Mendoza might hang up the cleats early if he constantly takes a beating, but many of these players might not feel prepared to succeed in another line of work.
I feel like having earned a lot would make it that much easier to turn down more.
