Several months ago I posted the following picture of a craft my kids and I did together (#1249187):

They each made a paper phone and got to pick which apps they would have on their phone. It was funny to see them include real apps like their lightening wallet links (this is how we pay out for chores, the tooth-fairy, and any other earned or gifted income), music players, and Stacker News. It was also sweet to hear some of their more creative suggestions like my 3 year old's desire for a "Go Fast Button" and his generic "Bitcoin Button."

With that post I included a little haiku. In response, @billytheked sent a haiku that evoked the simplicity of childhood. The special time before one's life is filled with technology that demands our attention and distracts from the arguably more important aspects of life such as imagination, play, and relational connection. I thought about this reading the recent discussion about phone-usage at meals (#1446402)...

I loved the poem, so I turned it into a cross-stick display. I hope that it will serve as a reminder to my family and friends that we can choose to be content with the less distracted moments instead of longing for the quick news, the tantalizing tweet, and, yes, even the zap notifications from SN.

Thanks to @billytheked for his creativity and willingness to share.

This brought a big smile to my face.
Thank you.

I’m glad you like how it turned out!

I went for a more old fashioned font than what I usually cross stitch with (my work is usually more fluid and floral, a bit feminine).

I am excited to hang it up. Either in our kids’ play area or maybe by the dining table as a reminder to slow down and enjoy our time together sans smart phones…
